We are grateful to Marijke de Kinkelder of the RKD, The Hague, who has confirmed this painting to be an authentic work by Pieter Mulier on the basis of a photograph. Works by the marine painter from Haarlem are close stylistically to those of Simon de Vlieger and Jan Porcellis. Typical motifs in his work are fishing boats on open seas subject to a fresh breeze.
